Keep the data on your devices safe
A phone or a laptop that somebody takes is not only a lost device. It is every message, photo and saved password on it. Full-disk encryption makes the contents unreadable without your passcode, and it is usually one setting.

Turn on full-disk encryption on your phone.
On Android this is in the Security settings. On an iPhone or iPad, setting a passcode turns it on.
Turn on full-disk encryption on your computer.
Windows, macOS and Linux each have a built-in tool. Veracrypt is an alternative if yours has none.
Make the encryption passphrase a strong one.
Choose at least six words at random with dice from a word list. This passphrase is the whole of the protection.
Install the updates that are waiting.
Security updates close the holes that an attacker uses to get past the lock screen.
Decide what does not belong on your everyday device.
Confidential material can live on a separate machine, with an operating system such as Tails or Qubes OS.
Keep that separate device where you would see tampering.
A locked cabinet is enough, if you would notice that somebody opened it.
Keep that separate device off the network.
Move files with physical media. If it must go online, use accounts that are only for it, and route the traffic through Tor.
